Lisa Haynes is an accomplished finance and accounting executive with over 30 years’ successful experience in both large and small companies. She is a strong leader with a proven ability to build high performing teams, lead through change and deliver results.
Ms. Haynes is currently the Chief Financial Officer of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) located in Washington D.C. Here, she provides executive level leadership and management of the MBA’s accounting and financial functions which include setting the policies, procedures, strategies and practices. She also serves as the staff liaison to the MBA Investment and Pension Committee and the Audit Committee of the MBA Board of Directors. Ms. Haynes provides leadership on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the MBA whose goal is to educate their members and increase awareness of the business case for diversity with the ultimate goal of improving diversity in the mortgage industry. She also serves as Treasurer of MBA’s Opens Doors Foundation and MISMO nonprofit organizations, as well as a Trustee for Research Institute for Housing America.
Prior to her work with MBA, Ms. Haynes gained executive experience with Fannie Mae, the leading source of financing for mortgage lenders. Holding several Vice President positions with a focus in the financial backend of the company, Ms. Haynes led project management for a strategic initiative with a $100M+ budget and approximately 150 employees and consultants across multiple divisions. In addition, she operated as a business unit CFO for 13 divisions. Ms. Haynes’ additional responsibilities included system ownership, accounting policy implementation, compliance, on top of others.
In addition, during her tenure at Fannie Mae, she transitioned a department from contractor staffing to 25+ full-time employees to complete one of the largest financial Restatement in SEC history. Her ability to identify, coach and developing talent has been a beacon throughout her career, and she continues to mentor former employees long after the job is over. She believes that one should always leave something better than you found it.
Ms. Haynes has led a successful career working for John Hancock Financial Services, Boston Private Industry Council Inc., Polaroid Corporation and Coopers & Lybrand. She has also operated as a Principal for Haynes Consulting where she successfully established and grew the finance and accounting practice specializing in nonprofits and small businesses.
Ms. Haynes earned her Master of Business Administration from Boston University’s Graduate School of Management. She is also a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Chartered Financial Consultant. Her professional affiliations include the National Black MBA Association, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Financial Executives Networking Group (FENG).
