Adalio Sanchez is a Senior Executive in the Information Technology enterprise hardware, software, and semiconductor markets. He is a 35-year technology industry veteran with a successful track record of transforming and growing many complex multi-billion dollar global businesses. Mr. Sanchez has an extensive background in strategy, R&D, product marketing, supply chain operations, business transformation, and M&A. He also has broad expertise in data center, cloud, and digital technologies, and has extensive public corporate board governance experience.
Mr. Sanchez is President of S Group Advisory LLC, a consulting firm that provides clients expertise and advisory services around strategy, technology, business models, and operational excellence. He also serves on the board of directors of ACI Worldwide (NASDAQ: ACIW), a software company serving the electronics payments market, and Quantum Corporation (NYSE: QTM), an IT storage solutions company.
Mr. Sanchez was formerly Senior Vice President at Lenovo Group Limited, where he was responsible for Lenovo’s $5B enterprise systems, storage, and data center technologies business, including product development, marketing, sales, operations, and overall financial performance. He was also a member of the Lenovo Executive Committee, which was comprised of the company’s top senior executive officers.
Prior to joining Lenovo, Mr. Sanchez spent 32 years at IBM Corporation in various senior executive and global general management roles. He was a member of IBM’s Performance team, the select group of IBM’s highest senior executive officers. Most recently, he was General Manager of Modular Systems and ran two multi-billion dollar IBM divisions in the enterprise segment – the System X Intel-based systems division, and the Retail Store Systems point-of-sale systems division. During his tenure, he transformed the businesses operationally and culturally to profitability and led their subsequent divestitures.
Prior to his role at IBM Modular Systems, Mr. Sanchez was Vice President of IBM Corporate Strategy, and earlier was General Manager of IBM Microelectronics division and oversaw the operational and financial performance of IBM’s semiconductor and engineering services business. He was also General Manager of IBM’s UNIX division and oversaw server and semiconductor hardware, the AIX operating system, and software applications. Over a four year period, he turned around the IBM UNIX business and drove significant growth that resulted in IBM becoming the worldwide share leader in what was the largest segment of the global enterprise systems marketplace at that time.
Other prior IBM positions included: General Manager/COO for the IBM Personal Systems Group, where he managed all PC supply chain and IT operations globally; General Manager of IBM’s ThinkPad notebook division where he led product development, sales, marketing, and was accountable for the global P&L; and Vice President of ThinkPad Development. In that latter role, he “fathered” the formation of the Bluetooth industry consortium that ultimately made today’s popular communication link ubiquitous. Mr. Sanchez began his IBM career in 1982 as a development engineer on the company’s second personal computer system at its Boca Raton, FL site.
Mr. Sanchez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami, and a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University. He was named U.S. Hispanic Engineer of the Year in 2007 and has frequently been named to the list of the Top Hispanics in Technology and Business. He serves as Treasurer and board member of the Florida International University Foundation and also serves on the board of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
