Nomi Bergman currently is a Senior Executive Officer of Advance/Newhouse Companies. She recently served as President of Bright House Networks until its recently completed merger with Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable. Bright House Networks, headquartered in Syracuse, NY, was the sixth-largest owner and operator of cable systems in the United States and the second-largest in Florida. The company had 8,500 employees and served approximately 2.5 million customers.

Bergman was a member of the founding management team that successfully launched the Bright House Networks brand in 2003. Her ability to strategically navigate quickly evolving technologies and rapidly advancing platforms, combined with her strong commitment to both people and culture, garnered successful results for Bright House Networks. Bergman is known as an advocate and spokesperson for innovative technologies and services aimed at continuously improving customer value and satisfaction.

Prior to the launch of Bright House, Bergman worked for Vision Cable Communications for three years as director of MIS and customer service, and then spent eight years at Time Warner Cable as director of business operations, vice president and general manager of high-speed data services, and ultimately vice president of customer operations. Her hands-on experience in customer care, engineering, business and technical operations, and information technology led to a hyper-focus on the customer experience at Bright House Networks. The company received accolades from its customers and was recognized by highly regarded consumer brands such as Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates—earning twelve J.D. Power awards for customer satisfaction. Bright House was known in the industry as a successful family venture: Bergman’s father retired in 2010 as chairman and her brother was CEO until the merger.

Bergman is an engaged and grounded leader who worked hard at Bright House to foster a culture that developed strong leaders, stimulated exceptional individual performance, built highly effective and sustainable teams, and established enduring relationships. She also launched initiatives such as the Bright House Networks Women’s Leadership Circle to develop a pipeline of women leaders across all functions within the company, and she has similarly helped initiate and support several women’s leadership programs in the industry at large.

As an industry leader, Bergman is respected for her integrity as well as her expertise. She has been consistently highlighted in Cablefax publications as a top cable industry executive, including being named to the Cablefax 100, the Digital Hot List, and the Most Powerful Women in Cable. She was the recipient of the 2004 Women In Technology Award, co-sponsored by Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), and Communications Technology magazine. She received the Multichannel News Wonder Women Award in 2005 and was named CED’s Person of the Year in January 2009. In April 2009, she received the industry’s prestigious Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership, which is the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s (NCTA’s) highest award. In 2011, she was named WICT Woman of the Year, and in 2014 she was named a Women in Solutions Honoree by the Alliance for Women in Media. Most recently, she learned that she is receiving the Cablefax Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bergman currently sits on the corporate board of privately held 1010data. Additionally, she sits on the board of Visteon Corporation, an automotive electronics leader, and Mediamorph, an award-winning enterprise software and data service. She has long been involved with the cable industry’s national organizations, including WICT, CableLabs, NCTA, and the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) to support industry governance, growth, and policy development. She currently serves on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Technological Advisory Council (TAC) and The Cable Center board of directors. She has served on the board of directors for WICT, the SCTE, and Canoe Ventures, and she currently serves as vice president of the board of the SCTE Foundation. She has also been on the Steering Committee for SkiTAM and is a member of the board of directors of Adaptive Spirit, a cable industry fundraising organization for the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team.

Bergman earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and statistics in 1985 from the University of Rochester and has remained closely connected to the University. She is a member of the University of Rochester’s Board of Trustees and also serves on the Institute for Data Science Advisory Committee and the Hajim School of Engineering’s Dean’s Advisory Board. In 2010, she received the John N. Wilder distinguished alumna award for her service to the University. Bergman also serves on the board of directors of One Revolution, a foundation established by Paralympian Chris Waddell, a 13x Paralympic medalist and the first paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. She volunteers at a local adaptive ski program called ARISE & Ski, and she is a part-time adjunct professor at Syracuse University’s iSchool. Bergman previously served on Syracuse University’s L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science Dean’s Leadership Council and the board of the Jewish Community Center of Syracuse.

Bergman is an avid skier and also enjoys running, swimming, cycling, and hiking. Through it all, she maintains that although she worked for Bright House Networks, her real moments of brightness derive from her role as a loving wife to her talented husband and a proud and dedicated mother of three wonderful daughters. Her guiding principle is that a well-rounded life is filled with passion and commitment and founded on a drive for excellence and kindness and that the best business leaders strive also to be exemplary human beings.
